Highly addictive and yet very slow paced.
I played this game for hours- I'm not sure how many. I guess it's my fault for putting it to the easiest mode (and I forgot about the difficulty slider until I started writing this review), but I found it insanely easy. My hero could slay an entire army of.. what did you call them? That was good nomenclature by the way, creative storyline and all.
I really think destroying the enemy castle should give you either stacks of gold or some kind of reward, because I toiled to destroy their castle but alas, to no avail! Maybe you could even pass the level once their castle was reduced to rubble- that would have been worh the struggle.
The music got pretty repetative pretty fast. Although it was good long-term music, it wasn't very exciting and didn't add a lot to the game. Upgrades were expensive, but fair, and there was a very grateful choice between building an army or being a one-man conqueror. I would have of course chosen the latter, seeing as all my army did was get in the way of my arrows. I think it would have been much better to power up both armies so they deal more damage. That would also make fortresses fall faster, which would have been appreciated too.
The dying sounds weren't the greatest, but fair enough. The characters were a little too tiny to appreciate, or recognise for that matter. Also, the voice acting during the intro was actually quite good, although slightly humorous because it's difficult to have a serious voice for the medieval narrator. Nice work with that, though.
There was a lot of variation to the game- profiles, attack style, possible upgrades etc. That was great to see- hugely expansive, but ultimately, there wasn't a lot to do. Just kill the enemy army as your own army crawled forward to capture their flag. Nevertheless, a very well made game with many hours of play, although admittedly it doesn't really go anywhere. I think the best thing you could do to this game is add a password system instead of the save system currently in place. In particular, a specific password could unlock all the upgrades, either by having them as initial skills, or providing enough gold to buy them all. That would probably make the game more enjoyable in my opinion.
